REVIEW: XY 'Deathbat'

XY
Deathbat
(Single)

French rockers XY streamed their brand new Avenged Sevenfold tribute song “Deathbat” on Youtube this afternoon (16/03/14).

I was really excited for this stream and they really brought the house down with the single. Form the first chords, you can feel it will be something good.

The song is amazing, to put it plainly. It definitely has that Avenged Sevenfold vibe throughout; intro, chorus and guitar solo reminding me of "Hail To The King" album, verses and bridge giving the feeling of "Nightmare".

The groove and heaviness is what "Deathbat" is all about: low, ridiculous riffs, harmonies, heavy drum line and the vocals that are beyond impressive.

As the melody slows down for a brief moment in the second part of the song, the guitar solo played by J-L comes in with the full power. High notes, harmonies and the style itself are just shooting out the A7X vibe.

My favourite thing about "Deathbat" is its lyrics. It was a brilliant idea to include Avenged Sevenfold references throughout it: song names, such as "Afterlife", "Shepherd of Fire", "Burn It Down" and many more and, of course, stage names of the members. While listening to the song, these references don't stick out too much, perfectly finding their place in the lyrics.

In this song everything is tied together perfectly, the whole track is just a non-stop head-banger."Deathbat" is what a true tribute song should be like.

The official release of "Deathbat" is 21st of April.

By pledging to XY third album on PledgeMusic you can instantly download the tribute song beforehand as well as their Avenged Sevenfold covers.
