LIVE: Papa Roach - Roundhouse (12/3/15)

Papa Roach
Roundhouse
12/3/15

If you want a definition of 'insane', then yesterday's Papa Roach concert at Camden Roundhouse is exactly that. A full-on rock n' roll fest, and the first time I feared for my life.

The supporting act coldrain from Nagoya, Japan were the real deal. I've heard a couple of their songs before, but didn't really got the chance to sit down and listen to them. Even though the crowd was kind of reluctant (as most crowds do during the opening acts), I really enjoyed coldrain's performance at the Roundhouse — they got a head-bang from me.

After the show has ended, I found coldrain chillin' in the lobby, meeting with the fans, so I walked up to Masato, Sugi and Katsuma, and thanked them for the show, wishing good luck in the future.

Papa Roach

Jacoby rockin' the show

The real show started when the lights went out and Papa Roach hit the stage with 'Infest'. From the first few chords of the song, the crowd went wild. The main show was made up of all songs from Infest (2000) album. The crowd were going crazy, starting the mosh pit and just going bat-shit insane. The band performed 'Revenge', 'Never Enough' and 'Binge', which weren't being performed live since 2000s.

Many front-row fans (including me) have been 'baptised' by Jacoby spitting out the water onto the crowd several times. But when you're a rock star of such calibre, no one really minds.

During the first part of the performance, Jacoby graced the fans with his presence as he dove of the stage into the crowd. I was lucky enough to be literally next to him as he did so. This was the first time that I feared for my life throughout the concert.

After finishing the Infest album, the band went for a little break, and came back with encore part of the show.  The fans seemed to be as supportive of the new songs as they were about the old school Papa Roach. The guys performed 'Face Everything and Rise', 'Warriors' and 'Broken As Me' from their new album F.E.A.R. (2015) and other well-known songs.

Jerry definitely wooed the crowd

At the end of 'Scars', Jacoby announced that it was the third day of celebrating Jerry's 30th birthday, and the crowd wished him happy birthday.

The fans were rather decent. Some people couldn't handle the pressure in the crowd, so many of them were brought to the front and lifted out of the mass of bodies. People in the crowd helped them to reach the front quickly and as safely as possible. The security guys were handing out cups with water for the first few front-row fans to stay hydrated throughout the concert, which was a really nice gesture.

However.

Jerry's solo moment

Somewhere around the middle of 'Getting Away with Murder', a few 'chaps' decided to get real rowdy and pushed their way to the front (again, almost next to me), and started harassing girls as well as pushing each other around. They seemed to have had a bit of a drink beforehand, but the male fans around and the security managed to shut their little party down. That was the second time I feared for my life.

Despite those couple things that happen in such concerts, I really really enjoyed myself throughout it all. coldrain did an awesome job with their set. I will definitely look into them more. Papa Roach were amazing. Jacoby sang as well as on the record, managing to rile up the crowd to real intensity.

This definitely was one hell of a concert.
