First of all, let me just say that I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to see Avenged Sevenfold for three damned years. And when I saw that they were going to play in London, I was flipping out. I bought the tickets as soon as they went on sale. And after 7 months of waiting, I was ready to go mental.

Avatar

The first opening act was Avatar - metal band form Göteborg, Sweden. Now this band was exactly what would you expect form a real Scandinavian metal band. Insane head banging, frontman’s, Johannes Eckerström, theatricality (the dude was wearing a top hat & had a cane!), heavy, aggressive riffs and crazy drums - a show worth to see. I did see a circle pit appearing, but security jumped in to stop it. What a shame. Even though Avatar were only an opening act for the big boys, they did what they had to - made the crowd move.

Setlist:
1. Torn Apart
2. Let It Burn
3. Paint Me Red
4. Ready for the Ride
5. Vultures Fly
6. Smells Like a Freakshow

Five Finger Death Punch

The second act - Five Finger Death Punch brought some real heavy stuff. Their show was aggressive, energetic and, well, metal. What else would you expect? Ivan Moody (singer) asked for the crowd to take out their lighters & cellphones to light the arena up. The view was undeniably amazing. Through out the 5FDP set, couple of circle pits started & kept on going as security understood, that it was useless to try and stop it. All in all, the band was amazing, giving their all.

Setlist:
1. Under and Over It
2. Burn It Down
3. Hard to See
4. Lift Me Up
5. Bad Company (cover)
6. Burn MF (with fan onstage)
7. Coming Down
8. Never Enough
9. Far from Home (1st verse & chorus)
10. The Bleeding

I am still stunned by the show that Avenged Sevenfold put on at Wembley Arena. This was the show of the year. Say what you want, but they know how to amaze. Dynamite, explosions, fire like form the pits of hell itself and fantastic light show was blinding the venue.

The crowd was going mental. Circle pits, head banging, fist pumping and screams were what went on throughout the two-hour set.

The highlight of the night was Zacky Vengeance’s sudden burst of randomness, as he smashed his guitar during the last chords of Buried Alive. "You never trash your guitar and now you do and I miss it! Fuck!" said M. Shadows after the song. We were the lucky ones to see this happen!

The boys preformed heart-throbbing Fiction which was effectively accompanied by the light works. Deep melancholy could be felt in the air, as the spotlight was directed into empty place on stage, while the singing of Jimmy (1981-2009; former drummer) was heard. After the song, M. Shadows thanked the crowd, slight emotion evident in his voice. The crowd started chanting ‘Jimmy’, showing gratitude for everything he has done.

Synyster Gates’ solo was simply insane. You cannot expect anything else form such an amazing musician. Full 8 minutes of improvisation and a short band jam session just before the last two songs on the set.

After the band went off stage and lights went down, the crowd was not rushing into demanding for an encore. But after couple of shouts form here and there, and couple of ‘Sevenfold’ chants, the fans started making some serious noise.

Avenged Sevenfold played two more songs form Waking the Fallen - Chapter Four & Unholy Confessions to go out with a bang.

What I did not expect after the set was over, was to see all five of them staying on the stage longer than usual, just so they could properly say their goodbyes to the fans. Long waves and bows were what left a big smile on my face.

To finish off, the concert was mind-blowing. The opening acts were fantastic & Avenged Sevenfold put on one heck of a show. This really was, hands down, the show of the year.

1. Shepherd of Fire
2. Critical Acclaim
3. Welcome to the Family
4. Hail to the King
5. Doing Time

7. Fiction
8. Nightmare
9. This Means War
10. Afterlife
11. Syn’s Guitar Solo/ Band Jam Session
12. Requiem
13. Bat Country
